Above are the final designs that I used for the cover of A Tribe Called Quest's 30th anniversary record. The designs were inspired by traditional African inspired patterns and imagery, which the group have regularly used in promotional material, cover designs and even in the clothing that they are seen in (see below). I also created a 3D mockup of the tribe logo in the purple of the cover design (also below).
This is the final outcome of the lyric video I produced for 'Can I Kick it?'. The design is the same as the one used in the cover, however, it has been repurposed for the rectangular aspect ratio. The central badge section has also been repurposed to react to the beat of the music as it plays, almost like the front of a physical speaker or boombox. I wanted the style to really reflect the abstract but flowing nature of the song itself and therefore I had all of the text appear on specific beats of the song, or as words are spoken in the verse sections. The words appear sporadically and are placed in unique orders as the words fill up the page, only to reach a point where the screen is full of text which then disappears to start the next section of the song.
This project really pushed my skills and advanced my knowledge of how to use after effects, It also inspired me to use animation more often in my design outcomes.
